Where will my massage or bodywork session take place?
Your massage or bodywork session will take place in a warm, comfortable, quiet room. Soft music may be played to help you relax. You will lie on a table especially designed for your comfort.

Must I be completely undressed?
Most massage and bodywork techniques are traditionally performed with the client unclothed; however, it is entirely up to you what you want to wear. You should undress to your level of comfort. You will be properly draped during the entire session.

Will the practitioner be present when I disrobe?
The practitioner will leave the room while you undress, relax onto the table, and cover yourself with a clean sheet or towel.

Will I be covered during the session?
You will be properly draped at all times to keep you warm and comfortable. Only the area being worked on will be exposed.

What parts of my body will be massaged?
A typical full-body session will include work on your back, arms, legs, feet, hands, head, neck, and shoulders.

What will the massage or bodywork feel like?
A relaxing Swedish massage is often a baseline for clients. In a general Swedish massage, your session may start with broad, flowing strokes that will help calm your nervous system and relax exterior muscle tension. As your body becomes relaxed, pressure will gradually be increased to relax specific areas and relieve areas of muscular tension. Often, a light oil or lotion is used to allow your muscles to be massaged without causing excessive friction to the skin. The oil also helps hydrate your skin. You should communicate immediately if you feel any discomfort so that another approach may be taken. Massage and bodywork are most effective when your body is not resisting.

Are there different kinds of massage and bodywork?
There are numerous types of massage and bodywork; various techniques utilize different strokes, including basic rubbing strokes, rocking movement, posture and movement re-education, application of pressure to specific points, and more. We can discuss which methods may be most appropriate for you.

What should I do during the massage or bodywork session?
Prior to the massage, feel free to ask the practitioner any questions about the technique or the upcoming session. During the massage, make yourself comfortable. The practitioner will either gently move you or tell you what is needed throughout the session (such as lifting your arm). Many people just close their eyes and completely relax, communicating if/when they need more or less pressure, another blanket, or anything else relevant to the session. If you have any questions regarding the session or about the particular technique you are receiving, feel free to ask.

How will I feel after the massage or bodywork session?
Most people feel very relaxed. Some experience freedom from long-term aches and pains developed from tension or repetitive activity. After an initial period of feeling slowed down, people often experience increased energy, heightened awareness, and greater productivity which can last for days.

What are the benefits of massage and bodywork?
Massage and bodywork can help release chronic muscular tension and pain, improve circulation, increase joint flexibility, reduce mental and physical fatigue and stress, promote faster healing of injured muscular tissue, improve posture, and reduce blood pressure. Massage and bodywork is also known to promote better sleep, improve concentration, reduce anxiety and create an overall sense of well-being.

Are there any medical conditions that would make massage or bodywork inadvisable?
Yes. That's why it's imperative that, before you begin your session, the practitioner asks general health questions. It is very important that you inform the practitioner of any health problems or medications you are taking. If you are under a doctor's care, it is strongly advised that you receive a written recommendation for massage or bodywork prior to any session. Depending on the condition, approval from your doctor may be required.

What exactly is a facial?

A facial is a cleansing treatment applied to the skin by a State Licensed and trained Esthetician. They help to eliminate the signs of aging, dull or tired skin, and clogged pores. A facial will involve several steps, including cleansing, exfoliation, steaming, extractions if necessary, massage, masks, eye cream and moisturizer. These services have become popular with all ages, both women and men alike.

How are your facials different from others I’ve received?

My facials are customized for the client’s specific needs. I will choose the right products to achieve the results you are searching for and can incorporate other modalities and technologies that are best for you, such as LED photo rejuvenation, Ultrasound, High Frequency, or Galvanic current. I use all natural and result-driven products, and will discuss appropriate self-care with you to help you maintain your skin between services. Many of the skincare tips I recommend can be done quickly and easily.  I take a gentle, non-aggressive approach to skincare, and there is no down-time with my services. I’ve been told my facials are very relaxing, and many clients remark they feel like a different person once their service is completed. I incorporate a relaxing facial massage, arm, neck, shoulder, and hand massage into all facial treatments. You will leave feeling refreshed and renewed with a beautiful healthy glow to your skin.

What does LED do for the skin? What is High Frequency, Ultrasound, and Galvanic?

LED (light emitting diode) light is a wonderful treatment for the skin. Red light helps build collagen for a more plump firm appearance, great for anti-aging, while blue light has anti-bacterial properties, and brings healing oxygen to the skin. High Frequency stimulates circulation and kills bacteria on the surface of the skin. This treatment is excellent for blemishes, especially for those pesky ones that pop up before a major event. I recommend my clients receive a high frequency treatment for these occasions, as results are typically seen the next day. My non-cavitation (no heat) Ultrasound device uses a pattern of sound waves to gently help push active ingredients, such as serums and peptides, into the skin for immediate results. Galvanic current uses a small electrical current to help deliver skincare products to the deeper layers of the skin, where they can give the best results. The client only feels the relaxing sensation of the roller over her skin.

What is a Microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion is a painless, noninvasive procedure that uses a spray of micro-crystals or a diamond tip wand to remove the outermost layer of dry dead skin cells while vacuuming the dead skin cells in a sterile and controlled manner, revealing younger, healthier-looking skin.   Microdermabrasion also encourages the production of a new underlying layer of skin cells with higher levels of collagen and elastin, which further improves your skin's appearance. The treatment is comfortable, with the sensation of a cat’s tongue. Clients experience softer, smoother, cleaner skin after the first treatment, with best results with regular treatments.

How do Microdermabrasions and Chemical Peels differ?

While microdermabrasion is more of a physical exfoliation, chemical peels use different types of skin-friendly acids to dissolve the dry dead cells on the surface of the skin. These acids incorporate brightening or hydrating ingredients to help lessen the appearance of sun or age spots or acne scars. Most of my clients like to switch between peels and microdermabrasions in their treatments.

Will there be any downtime?

There is no downtime with any of my skincare treatments. With peels, I recommend refraining from the use of hot tubs, saunas, and strenuous activity for 24 hours, and avoid exfoliation or hair removal methods for up to 72 hours. Some clients experience a small amount of flakiness, but do not experience the “peeling” effect that would cause you to miss social activities.  With waxing services, some redness or sensitivity may occur, and will usually subside with in a few hours.

How long before I see results?

Everyone’s skin is different, but most clients can see a result in one treatment, with more cumulative effects when they continue their services. The amount of time between professional skincare services will be different for each person, depending on your skin condition and your goals.

How often should I receive facial treatments?

Most people can receive classic facials every week, and microdermabrasions and peels typically every 2-4 weeks. We will discuss the treatment time frame during your consultation.

What is a Microcurrent Lifting Treatment?

Microcurrent is a non-surgical anti-aging treatment using a small electrical current that mimics that of a person’s own body. Each session re-educates the facial muscles to lift, tighten, and strengthen, and causes the body to produce collagen and elastin, which smoothes lines and wrinkles.  There is no downtime, no pain, no needles and no swelling. The procedure is completely non-invasive and takes about an hour, with subsequent sessions typically taking 25-50 minutes. This is a natural alternative to injections and surgery, and you will appear refreshed and “well rested.” With the inclusion of Elastin Infusion, you can recover two years of lost elasticity in one treatment, giving you an even firmer appearance. Adrian D. Howe is the only provider offering this service in the greater Charlotte area. Peptide Lift Ultrasound therapy can be included upon request.

How long do the results last? How does the treatment series work?

Results can be seen immediately and usually last a few days. This is a great treatment to receive before a special event, such as a wedding, reunion, or charity gala. More permanent results can be seen with a series of 10-15 treatments, with two treatments the first week, and one each week thereafter. You can then move into a maintenance package, purchased at the same price, where you return once every 3-6 weeks, just as you would for maintaining other services such as hair color.

Is there anyone who should not receive any of these treatments?

Everyone can benefit from classic facials. Pregnant women and those with a history of epilepsy or cardiac pacemakers should not receive any electrical treatments, including microdermabrasion.   Clients with a history of cancer or diabetes, and those who have metal implants should seek advice from their medical doctor before receiving microcurrent treatments. Feel free to contact me with any questions you may have.
